Woodstock Daily Sentinel ~ Dec 1935

Euretta Bunsted

Euretta (Van Hoozen) Bumsted was born February 17, 1861, on Queen Anne Prairie, near Greenwood where she grew to womanhood and passed quietly away to her Heavenly home on December 13th, 1935 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Howard Vogel after several weeks of patient suffering.

On February 10th, 1891, she was united in marriage with George F. Bumsted of Woodstock who now survives her. Besides her bereaved husband she leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Olivene (Mrs. Howard Walkington) of Ringwood, and Vera (Mrs. Howard Vogel) of Richmond, also two step-sons, Edwin Bumsted of Beloit, Wis., and Eugene Bumstead of Omaha, Neb., upon whom she bestowed a mother's love and care.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dale Henry, who died May 1895.

She is survived also by one sister Mrs. Nettie Miller of Woodstock and by several grandchildren.

As a girl she took an active part in the Greenwood Methodist church and was a member of the choir. In 1903 while residing in Wisconsin she united with the first Congregational church of Clinton.

She was devotedly attached to her home and was a loving companion and mother. She spared no pains to relieve the distress of her friends and neighbors when they were in trouble and was always ready to go to their aid.

Mrs. Bumsted was a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Woodstock.

"Sometime, when all life's lessons
have been learned,
And sun and stars forevermore
have set.
The things which our weak judgement
here have spurned,
The things which we have grieved,
with lashes wet,
Will flash before us, out of life's
dark night,
As the stars shine most in deepest
tides of blue.
And we shall see how all God's plans
are right,
And how, what seems reproof, was
Love most true."

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Dec. 16, at the Howard Vogel home with Rev. Ralph Kofoed, pastor of the Greenwood Methodist church in charge. Burial took place in Dundee.
