17 Jun 1938
Louis McFarland, son of Mr. and Mrs. William McFarland, was born December 14, 1863, at McFarland, Wisconsin, and departed this life June 16, 1938, at his home in Mazomanie, at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 2 days.
At the age of 16, he became interested in race horses and worked as a jockey for many years. In 1896 he married Miss Laura Eng of Fort Atkinson who preceded him in death in 1931. They spent the first years of their married life at McFarland, coming to Mazomanie in 1909 where he has practiced veterinary work ever since, up until four weeks before his death.
His father was depot agent at McFarland in the early days and owned the land where the village which was named in his honor now stands.
He is survived by three brothers, John and Joseph of McFarland and Charles of Madison; one sister, Mrs. Mary Mack of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
He was an honest, upright citizen, a friendly neighbor and was always willing to help the needy. His smiling face and genial manner will be missed by many.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, June 19, at two o'clock from the Community church, with burial in the Mazomanie cemetery. The Rev. George F. Shepherd officiated. Six nephews, all McFarland boys, were pall-bearers.
