Born December 7, 1929 in Harford Township, PA. He graduated from Harford High School in 1948. Alan served his country proudly and honorably with the US Air Force during the Korean conflict as a member of the post WWII European occupational forces stationed in France and Germany. Upon discharge from the Air Force he relocated to Greene where he met and married his beloved wife Marjorie.
Alan was a life long member of the Congregational Church transferring membership to Greene in 1956. He was a member of the Masonic Brotherhood where he was a past Master of the Eastern Light Lodge #126 and past King of the Royal Arch Masons. He was a member of the Greene Fire Department in his younger years and served for several years as Justice for the Town of Greene. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, a certified tool maker and tool design engineer. He worked for many years in the Engineering Department at Raymond Corporation and later retired from IBM, Endicott.
Alan was an avid camper, gardener and lover of the outdoors. After retirement he and his beloved wife Marjorie along with their faithful dog Dana traveled the United States in their fifth wheel camper enjoying what they loved to do most and making many new friends along the way. His quick wit, distinctive humor and generosity will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Friday at Root Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis Whitman, pastor of his church officiating. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. Friends of the family may call Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Root Funeral Home 23 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, 28 N. Chenango Street, Greene, NY 13778. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.rootfh.com.
