| Birth: | Dec. 26, 1924 Harris County Texas, USA | | Death: | Jul. 5, 1994 Harris County Texas, USA | Joseph Lee Chapple, the son of Joseph Chapple and Estella Smith, was born December 26, 1924 and was reared in Houston's Greater 5th Ward community. He was fondly known at Atherton Elementary School as "Peter" the boy who could run as fast as a rabbit! On May 4, 1943, he was drafted in the United States Army during World War II. Once he returned from the war, he became a bit of a traveling man as he hopped freight trains (without paying mind you) and traveled all over the United States. After some time, he finally came back to Houston where he bought himself a home, settled down and worked as a professional demolitionist and house-mover for Drake Homes for many years.
Joseph Lee died on July 5, 1994 from a massive heart attack. His funeral services were held Friday, July 8, 1994 at James Stripling Funeral Home, 1402 Cleburne Street, Houston, TX at 11 AM. Rev. Leonard Barksdale, Pastor of Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Final arrangements were entrusted to James Stripling Funeral Home and he was interred in Houston National Cemetery, Houston, TX on July 8, 1994.
