Walter Apodaca - Pueblo Chieftain - September 14, 2003 - Walter Apodaca, 76, of Pueblo, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 11, 2003, after a short illness.

He was born July 22, 1927, in Strong, Colo.

Preceded in death by his wife, Della Apodaca; son, Kenneth Apodaca; grandsons, Kenneth Sanchez and Eddie Apodaca; his parents, Edward and Alvina Apodaca; brothers, Joe, Charlie, Felix, Ernie and Robert Apodaca.

Survived by his children, Kathy (Joe) Trujillo, Geri (LeRoy) Arellano, Theresa (Steve) Sanchez, all of Pueblo, Anita (Vince) Trujillo of Fort Collins, Walter Anthony (Sally) Apodaca of Beulah, Eddie (Sandra) Apodaca of Elizabeth, and Bobby Apodaca of Denver; brothers, Richard Apodaca of Sacramento, Calif., Ed Apodaca of Aurora, and Art Apodaca of Pueblo; sisters, Dora Salazar and Dorothy Apodaca of Pueblo, Rosie Mares of Denver.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Janell (Bob) Shockey, Sharon (Greg) Solano, Bennie (Erica) Salazar, Lisa Arellano (Stan Gomez), LeRoy Arellano II, Michelle (Derek) Zehler, Michael Trujillo, Anthony Apodaca, Andres Apodaca, Nathan (Heather) Sanchez, Mark Fernandez, Alicia Apodaca, Jared Apodaca, Bobby Mike Apodaca, Vanessa Apodaca, Marcus Apodaca, Jenasey Martinez.

Walter is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, friends and great neighbors.

Walter proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and he retired from the Pueblo Depot Activity, in 1986 after 35 years. He loved gardening and watching sports, especially the Broncos.

Walter loved his family dearly and spent much of his time attending family athletic events, and all birthday parties. He will be greatly missed by all his family who loved him very much.

Viewing, 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Romero Chapel. Funeral service will be held at Pueblo Christian Center, 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, with Pastor Larry Ruiz, officiating.

Interment, Imperial Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Richard Rivera and the staff at Parkview Hospital. The family will greet relatives and friends at 2419 Spruce, in Pueblo. Military honors by the Pueblo Veterans Ritual Team.
