Oscar "Leon" Lewis went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25. He was born Easter Sunday, April 17, 1927 in Brownfield, Texas to Clyde and Ora Lewis.
He served our country serving in both and Army and Navy. During the Korean War Era he served in Boston Harbor. In the 1950's during the time he served in the army Leon served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Leon was married to his former wife, Emma Dugger Lewis-Massey for 51 1/2 years.
Leon taught for over thirty years in the Plains ISD. He was an avid golfer and collected six holes-in-one during his career. Dad never met a stranger and was quick to tell everyone about the love of Our Heavenly Father. He wanted to be a preacher early in life but significant others in his life before marriage wanted him to have a more secure ay of making a living. Christianity remained a passion of his throughout his life. He sang in Church choir until his late seventies and cried when his voice was starting to fail and he knew that he had to give it up.
Leon is survived by his son, Ceth and wife Jerra and their children, Hayes and Jessa of Weatherford; his daughter, Amantha and husband Herb, and her children Stephen, Clarence, Elizabeth, Aron, and Darryl; two brothers, Bobby Lewis and Deverelle Lewis of Lubbock; a sister, Elray McKinney of Lubbock; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by two sons; Clarence Leon Lewis and William Deverelle Lewis: grand parents; Monroe Brown Sawyer, who was one of the first Texas Rangers in West Texas and Elizabeth Rebecca Skein Sawyer, they were some of the pioneers to settle in Terry County, Texas.
