Following the death of her Mother in 1891, Mary Steffes along with her Father and surviving siblings moved to the Plum City area. During this time on 6/1/1897, Mary Steffes was married to Joseph Liter (1872-1956) in Plum City. During their marriage, Joseph and Mary would have 14 children: George (1898-1898), Peter Paul (1899-1973), John (1900-1901), Twins: Anna Marie (1903-1994) and William John (1903-1988), Anton (1905-1977), Twins: Frances Katherine (1906-1959) and Matthew (1906-1906), Baby Girl (1907-1907), Henry (1909-1909), Margaret Kathryn (1911-1994), Leonard (1913-1976), Thomas Peter (1915-1938), and Helen (1920-2011). Joseph and Mary farmed for many years in Plum City as well as in Durand and Union. Mary Liter died on 12/20/1939 at home following a battle with breast cancer.
