SHEFFIELD -- Funeral serices for John J. Malone, 65, of Sheffield, will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Sheffield with the Rev. R.D. Streeter officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.
Mr. Malone died Thursday (Feb 23, 1989) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Mason City of natural causes.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday at Grarup Funeral Home in Sheffield.
He was born April 24, 1923, at Braddish, Neb., to Thomas and Alice (Zabka) Malone. He attended schools in the Genoa-Silver Creek School System in Nebraska. After completing high school he began working for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1941 he returned home and began farming in Nebraska. He then began road construction with Duesenberg Construction in Clear Lake where he worked for 28 years.
On June 12, 1943, he was married to Lorraine Brouwer at Bartlett. Neb. They made their home in Primrose. Neb. After moving around the country as his job required, they made their home in Sheffield in 1972. For the past six years he worked for Holland Construction out of Decorah as a finish bulldozer operator.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; four daughters, Janice Wiemann, Avoca; Mrs. Dick (Sandra) Chance, Matherville, ILL.; Mrs. Dave (Kathryn) Eakins, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Galen (Marlene) Eisentrager, Sheffield; two sons, John L., Taylor Ridge, ILL., and Steven J., Blue Grass; five sisters, Mrs. Violet McDonnell, Clinton; Mrs. Helen Duran, Council Bluffs; Shirley Bangart, Acton, Calif.; Mrs. Marie Zeimba and Mrs. Hazel Tallmage, both of Omaha, Neb.; five brothers, James of Davenport; George and Richard both of Bettendorf; Charles, Sun Valley, Calif., and Frank of Fayette: 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and two brothers.
