Anna Mae Bonsall, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died at Northbrook Care Center Sunday, March 10, 2013. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Al Polito of the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello. Interment: Czech National Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1989.
Anna was born April 23, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, the only child of Jerry and Bessie Bezdek Klinsky. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1948 and attended Coe College for one year. She married Richard Bonsall at First Congregational Church on Oct. 1, 1950. As a young girl, she helped her parents in their small grocery store. She was employed as a secretary by the Cedar Rapids School Board and later for the Census Bureau. She loved cooking, cleaning, sewing, camping, gardening and made her home a warm, loving place to be. She was a happy, loving person who was kind to everyone. Even after suffering a massive stroke in 1986, which left her right side paralyzed, she still cooked and cleaned and embroidered with one hand. She did as much as she could for herself until the very end. She never complained about her situation and enjoyed life to the fullest.
She was an active member of First Congregational Church, prior to her stroke. She was involved with the PTA when her children were in school and was a Campfire leader for many years. She was proud of her Czech heritage and for several years spoke to school children about the Czech culture.
She had been at Northbrook Care Center for 10 years and was lovingly cared for by the staff there.
Memorial may be directed to the family.
