Albert Bertelsen was born in Denmark in 1850. After emigrating to the U.S., he eventually ended up in Coloma, where he met his bride-to-be Jane Gray. They were married in Coloma by Reverend C.C. Pierce in 1876, in a special ceremony on Christmas Day, the very last wedding that Rev. Pierce performed for that year.

The couple were together for nearly 14 years when tragedy struck. Jane passed away on December 2, 1890, causes unknown. Her funeral was held at a family friend's home, Phillip Siebenthaler, who lived on 20th Street (between H & I streets) in Sacramento. She was then interred at the Masonic Cemetery just adjacent to the Historic Sacramento City Cemetery on Broadway.

Albert moved to Rocklin where he worked for the Lee Mine and Ranch, managing it. He lived on his own land, just adjacent to the Lee mine.

On or around December 2, 1891, exactly one year from the day that Jane died, Albert succumbed to wounds from a blast. He had been blasting stumps around his property when it appeared that one of the explosions destructed prematurely. He was wounded severely but managed to drag himself back to his house where he died. His body wasn't found until December 7th, and made the papers by the 8th. The coroner believed he had been dead for several days which makes it very possible he died on December 2nd, the one year anniversary of his wife's death.

His long time friend, Phillip Siebenthaler brought his body back to Sacramento to be buried next to his beloved. Sadly, it appears that Albert doesn't have a headstone, or if he did, at some point it was stolen or destroyed.---- BIO by J'aime Rubio
