AUSTIN E. HURD, 68, OF NEWTOWN, DIES.
NEWTOWN, Nov 14 - Austin E. Hurd, 68, of Riverside road, Sandy Hook, retired operator of the Sandy Hook garage and a former constable here, died this morning in Danbury hospital where he was admitted thursday for treatment of a heart ailment.
A native of Danbury, Mr. Hurd had worked as a railroad man in various parts of the country and also worked many years as a steamfitter. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Sullivan Hurd; a brother Charles Hurd of New York City, and an aunt, Sister Mary Oswald, of St. Mary's home, Hartford.
Services will take place Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the Honan funeral home, Main street, and at 9 o'clock in St. Rose's church with a solemn high Mass. Burial will be in St. Roses' cemetery.

NOTE - while the date on the tombstone is Nov 16, the actual date of death was November 14 per Connecticut death index, and the fact that his obituary was in the newspaper on November 15 confirms the tombstone date is more likely the burial date and not the date of death.
