"John Armstrong, son of William and Lydia Armstrong was born in Crawford county, August 11, 1833, near Sulphur, and died May 22, 1933, aged 90 years, 9 months and 11 days.
He was married to Abbie Jones about the year 1850, to this union were born two children, Martha Satterfield, of near Sulphur, and Robert Armstrong, of near Cannelton.
He was a soldier in the civil war, having enlisted in the Indiana Calvary, and served almost three years. He was honorably discharged.
He has made his home with his grandson, Alva Armstrong, for 21 years, and these two have lived together for 43 years. He was enjoying life until a day or two before his death, and was a man well preserved for his age. He was the oldest citizen of Crawford county at the time of his death and would have been 100 years old August of this year.
He leaves two children, two grandchildren, Alva Armstrong, of English, and Bobbie Armstrong, of Cannelton; one great-grandchild, Alma Lee Armstrong, and one brother, George Armstrong, of near Sulphur.
The funeral, in charge of Leonard Cummins, was held at Riddle, Tuesday at 2 p.m."
