Erwin W. Maffit

Erwin W. Maffit, 73, of Sioux City, died Monday , June 6, 2005, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Paul Speidel officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8p.m., at the funeral home.

Erwin W. Maffit was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Freindship, WI., the son of Alfred W. and Grace (Calkins) Maffit.

He married Violet Thompson-Meyer in 1963 in Elk Point, S.D. they later divorced. He married Mary Lorraine Turner on Sept. 13, 1969. She passed away in May of 1984. He married Mary Rosecrans-Thompson on July 4, 1985, in Sioux City.

He was a truck driver for 18 years with Farmers Coop in Hinton.

He was a member of the South Sioux City Moose Lodge 2411 and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary: six children, Randy Meyer of FL., Dave Meyer and his wife, Kathy of Salix, Iowa, Karen and her husband, Roger Dempster of Le Mars, Iowa, Sue and her husband, T.J. Hughes of Sioux City, Jim Maffit of Pheonix, AZ. and Gene Maffit and his wife, Sherri of South Sioux City. Two Step-sons, Les "Butch" Turner and John Mallett, four step-daughters, Sandy Ivner, Lynn Turner, Jo Ann Heckman and Janet Penaligan: 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lorraine: a son, Clark Maffit: a brother, Bob and a sister Ruby.

Pallbearers will be Troy Dempster, Travis Dempster, Tom Stack, Bruce Maffit, Andy Petersen, and Joe Maffit. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Meyer and David Meyer.
