Sara got a degree in elementary education from Missouri Baptist. She married Brian Anders in 2002 and was just beginning her teaching career when diagnosed with acute leukemia. She passed away on August 14, 2003, at the age of 22 at the Siteman Cancer Center of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Services for Sara were conducted on August 17, 2003, at the Second Baptist Church, and burial was at Memorial Gardens in Bowling Green.
A fund to award an elementary teaching scholarship annually in Sara's memory was set up.
Sara is survived by her husband, Brian Anders; her parents, Chris and Vickie Straube; two brothers, Trent Straube of New York and Aaron Straube of Bowling Green;her sister-in-law, Kelly Straube; her grandmother, Mrs. E.J. (Lil) Straube, Jr. of Bowling Green and a host of relatives and friends.
