Alger married Norma J on October 14, 1950. They had 7 children: Vicki, John, Alvin, Mary Eileen, Patrice, Amanda, and Jennifer.

Alger "Shorty" Amble, 77, of New Hampton, died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the New Hampton Care Center of natural causes. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 12 at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Crane Creek), rural Lawler with Reverend Vincent C. Fricke officiating. Verna Orvis will be the organist and will accompany those in attendance singing "Rock of Ages," "How Great Thou Art" & "Precious Lord Take My Hand." Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Reilly Ridge with grandchildren Jay Ramsey, Sarah Huscko, Dan Amble, Ryan Amble, Abigail, Lydia, and Eleanor Lofte, Emily Sorenson, Brittany and Lucas Trewin, and Garrett Johnson. Honorary casket bearers will be Bill Weigel, Richard Armbrecht, Avey Johnson, Bob Brincks, Gil Lensing, Gary Douglas, Rich Gerber, Don Blocker, Dick Stolfus, and Ralph Koenigsfeld. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 pm Tuesday, January 11 at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton and an hour prior to services a the church.
Alger Norman Amble was born March 22, 1927, on a farm east of Jerico, the son of John & Clara (Knutson) Amble. He was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Saude. He began his education at the West Saude School and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1945. After his schooling he farmed with his father.
On October 14, 1950, Alger was united in marriage to Norma Hurd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Reilly Ridge. Following their marriage the couple farmed North of Jerico. Alger began working at Supersweet Feeds in New Hampton in 1959. He retired from farming in the early 80's, but continued at Supersweet until his retirement in 1989. Following his retirement he began working as a night manager with his wife at the Super 8 in New Hampton. The couple moved to New Hampton in 2000. In his younger years, Alger enjoyed playing baseball with the Jacksonville, New Hampton, Cresco, and Lourdes teams. He also played guitar in the Jerico Hotshots Band with Veronica Weigel, Alvie Ellingson and Alfred Anderson and he enjoyed coaching 4-H softball. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Alger is survived by his wife Norma of New Hampton; 6 children Vicki (Robert) Ramsey of Center Point, IA, Jack (Deb) Amble of Clear Lake, IA, Mary Eileen (Adrian) Lofte of Ossian, IA, Pat Sorenson of Decorah, IA, Amanda (Paul) Trewin of New Hampton, Jennifer Johnson and her special friend Mark Jacobson of Rochester, MN; 11 grandchildren Jay Ramsey, Sarah (Andre) Huscko, Dan Amble, Ryan (Jenny) Amble, Abigail, Lydia, and Eleanor Lofte, Emily Sorenson, Brittany and Lucas Trewin, and Garrett Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Alvin, granddaughter Stephanie Thur, grandson Nicholas Sorenson and a sister Eileen Amble.
