Adolph W. Althage was born on 29 August 1887, in the Port Hudson community. On 2 October 1887, he was baptized in the Port Hudson Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the same church on 31 March 1901.
On 1 September 1912, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Baumann. This union was blessed with three children, Stella, Edna and Elsa. Edna and Elsa passed away in infancy. His wife, preceded him in death on 9 July 1918.
On 2 March 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Kormeier, a union which was blessed with four children, Raymond, Alvin, Doris and Dorothy. Raymond died in infancy, and Alvin died in the service of his country on 18 October 1945. Prior to this, his wife, Ella, had passed away on 24 April 1931.
On 10 January 1932, he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Kormeier, a union which was blessed with five children, Esther, Howard, Gilbert, Richard and Mary.
His entire life was spent in this community. For many years, he operated a feed mill in Lyon, retiring in 1955. He was very active in church work, serving in various capacities and on several occasions as lay-delegate to the Western District Convention.
Mr. Althage celebrated his 72nd birthday on Saturday, August 29, in a quiet way with the members of his immediate family and some relatives. He passed away the next morning, Sunday, 30 August 1959, at the age of 72 years and 1 day,
Surviving are his sorrowing wife, Dora; his children, Esther (Mrs. Harvey Scheer), St. Louis, Howard, Gilbert, Richard and Mary, who lived with him, Stella (Mrs. Fred Lohmeyer), Dorris (Mrs. Julius Scheer), and Dorothy (Mrs. Virgil Kasmann), all of New Haven; 4 sons-in-law; 9 grandchildren; one sister, Alvina (Mrs. Oscar Deppermann); two brothers, Theodore and Martin, of New Haven; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mathilda Kormeier, of New Haven; brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Port Hudson Lutheran Church on September 2. Interment in the Church Cemetery.
