Mary "Peggy" Monica Alchermes
(June 30, 1925 - August 11, 2008)
Mary Monica "Peggy" Alchermes, 83, of Buck Hill Falls, died Monday afternoon, August 11, at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre. She was the widow of Joseph Aloysius Alchermes who died March 27, 1995.
Born on June 30, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Alfosno and Mary (McLean) Donella. She earned a Bachelor's degree from Notre Dame in Staten Island, NY and her Masters degree from Fordham University and was a social worker retiring after a long career with Catholic Charities.
Peggy was a member of St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church in Canadensis where she was a Eucharist minister, greeter and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children, Joseph D. Alchermes and his wife, Alessandra of New York City, NY, Mary "Meg" Dilger and her husband, Joseph of Cresco, and Christopher B. Alchermes and his wife, Milagros of Glendale, CA; grandchildren, Constance Alchermes, Trip Dilger, Chris Dilger, Monica Dilger, George Dilger, Matthew Dilger, Michael Alchermes and Thomas Alchermes and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerome Donella.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, August 14 at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, Canadensis with the Rev. David Cramer as celebrant. Burial followed in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial remembrances be made to Little Flower Manor, 200 South Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
Arrangements are under the direction of the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.
