Roland "Jim" R. Altemus, 79, of Wind Gap, passed away, Friday, May 6, 2011 at ManorCare Health Services, in Palmer Township.
Born: March 26, 1932 in Pen Argyl, he was a son of the late Russell Sr. and Edith Casebeer Altemus.
Personal: Jim honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for Valerie Fashions, in Wind Gap, where he later retired. In his leisure time, he listened to Country music. He particularly enjoyed bowling and participated in several bowling leagues at Blue Valley Lanes, Wind Gap. Jim liked the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loyal Philadelphia sports fan, who followed both teams, the Phillies and the Eagles. Additionally, he was a long time dog owner. Over many years, he had several dogs who served as his loyal and faithful companions.
Memberships: He was a member of the Slate Belt Bowling Association.
Survivors: His loving family, including one son, James A. Altemus of Valparaiso, IN and one daughter, Cynthia L. Altemus of Davenport, FL; one grandson, Scott L. Altemus of Havertown, PA and sisters, Dorothy Behler of Wind Gap and Helen Williams of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Russell Altemus Jr. and Paul Altemus and sister Ethel Behler.
Services: Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday, 10:00-11:00 a.m., in the Schmidt Funeral Home P.C., 202 West St., Wind Gap. Graveside services, with Military Honors, will follow in Wind Gap Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Center for Animal Health and Welfare, 1165 Island Park Rd, Easton, PA 18042.
