Robert J. Ambrose Sr., 84, of Wind Gap, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA.
Born: January 13, 1926 in Wind Gap, he was a son of the late John and Mary Griffith Ambrose.
Personal: His wife of 55 years, the former Naomi Raub, passed away December 22, 2006. Bob was a veteran of WW II having served the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre. Later he joined the police department of Wind Gap borough with a career that spanned over 30 years. During that time Bob served as Chief of Police for 18 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Most importantly, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to many.
Memberships: Masonic Lodge #594 F&AM Pen Argyl, the Wind Gap American Legion, the VFW in Bangor and the Forest Fire Wardens. He was also a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Wind Gap.
Survivors: One son, Robert J. Ambrose Jr. and his wife Lucille of Pen Argyl; one daughter Gayle Ambrose Steinmetz of Wind Gap; one brother Ambrose J. "Andy" Ambrose of New York; Four grandchildren, Christine, William, Nicole, Jessica; two great-grandchildren, Garrison and Marissa.
Services: A viewing will be held Friday evening from 7-9pm in the Schmidt Funeral Home, PC, 202 West St., Wind Gap. An additional viewing will be held Saturday from 10am till time of service in Palmer Moravian Church, 2901 John St., Palmer Township. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 11am in the church, with the Rt. Rev. Douglas Kleintop and the Rev. Michael Remel officiating. Interment will follow at Northampton Memorial Shrine.
