Ruth Eileen (Metzgar) Adams, 57, of East Stroudsburg, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 22, surrounded by her loving family at the VNA Hospice House, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of William Robert Adams, son of the late Jasper Adams and Gladys Edith Adams, as well as stepson of the late Alzada Adams, with whom she shared 37 years of marriage.
Born in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of Gertrude "Polly" Rowe Metzgar of Swiftwater and the late Edward F. Metzgar and was a lifetime resident of Monroe County.
She was a graduate of Pocono Mountain High School, Northampton Community College and East Stroudsburg University.
She was a proud member of both the Pocono Mountain Cardinal Marching Band and the East Stroudsburg Teacher's College Marching Band.
She was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Swiftwater since childhood.
She was a loyal employee of the Pocono Medical Center for the past 38 years.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Adams of East Stroudsburg and Sandra Adams of Stroudsburg; five grandchildren, Jarryd and Jayden Tarver of Stroudsburg and Brittney, Bethany and Mallory Motes of East Stroudsburg; two sisters, Betsy Palmer of Pocono Summit and Janice Flene and her husband, Christopher, of Smithville Flats, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Jeffrey A. Adams of Hazleton; nine nephews, Eric Palmer and his wife, Linnea, of Swiftwater, Peter Desmond Jr. of McDonough, N.Y., Joshua Brice of Smithville Flats, N.Y., Perry Singer of Gouldsboro, Michael Singer of Florida, Todd Kresge and his wife, Kelly, of Stroudsburg, Scott Crosby of Newark, N.Y., Keith Tuthill Jr. of Stroudsburg and Austin Gottstein of Harveys Lake; four nieces, Gillian Metzgar of Tannersville, Katrina Adams of Harveys Lake, Amanda Packard of Stroudsburg and Tracey Clingerman of Newark, N.Y.; and numerous cousins.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Anna Metzgar and Stewart and Ethel Rowe; and her two brothers, David and Jeffry Metzgar.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece, grandmother and friend. She gave 110 percent to everyone and everything. She was a shoulder to cry on, a pair of ears to listen and an overflowing fountain of advice and encouragement. Her home and her heart were open to all. She was truly selfless, loyal and dedicated.
The Rev. Robert E. Tutrone will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Swiftwater.
