RUSSELL ACKER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Russell Acker, 77, of 1037 North Second Street , prominent retired Decatur businessman, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday at the Adams County memorial hospital.
He had been ill for the past six months and hospitalized for three months.
Mr. Acker, a resident of Decatur most of his life, was the owner and operator of Acker Cement Block Co. for many years until his retirement in 1946.
Born near Willshire, O., June 4, 1891, he was a son of Samuel and Alice Roop-Acker, and was married to Vivian Dawson Jan. 24, 1916.
Mr. Acker was a member of the First Christian church and had been a member of the Decatur Lions Club since 1930.
Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Mel (Mildred) Collier of Huntington; one granddaughter, Mrs. Edwin Beckner of Indianapolis ; and one brother, Floyd Acker of Decatur . One brother is deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. Kenneth Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of the services.
