Lorenzo Dow Allen was born May 1820, and his parents were Squire (Esquire) Allen and Hannah Hill.

That Lorenzo Dow Allen was born in New York is proven by his draft card. In some census reports and in his obituary his birth place is given as Massachusetts. But he, himself, gave his birth information as 43 years old and born in New York, per his statements to the draft board, as follows,

U.S., Civil War Draft Registrations Records, 1863-1865

Name: Linneo D Allen
Residence: Sodus, New York
Class: 2

Age on 1 July 1863: 43

Lorenzo's siblings were Benjamin (1816-1866) and Sylvester (b. 1839).
His adoptive siblings (cousins) were Joanna Allen (1808-1891) and Darius (1805-1895). Joanna and Darius were orphaned when Darius was about four years old, and were raised by their uncle. This is according to a biography of Darius, published at the time Darius was alive.

The following Will for Benjamin Allen refers to Joanna (Allen) Ewing and Darius Allen as half sister and half brother of Benjamin.

-------------------------------

Lorenzo married Mary E. (b. abt. 1823); at this time I (Cherie J.) haven't yet discovered Mary's name. She shows as E.M. in records I've found via the Wayne Historian's Office.

Their children included: Harriet, Margaret Jane, Catherine, Orra Bell and Anna Belle.

On January 24, 1895 his adoptive brother (cousin) Darius Allen passed away. One of Darius' death notices refers to Lorenzo:

The following is from The Arcadian Weekly Gazette, 6 February 1895, Wayne County, New York.

Gen. Darius Allen of Troy, whose death was recently announced in Associated Press dispatches, was a brother of our townsman, L.D. [Lorenzo Dow] Allen, Esq.

Lorenzo passed away August 11, 1900.

Here are notices regarding Lorenzo's death. The originals are at the Wayne County Historian's Office:

Note: The 1876 birth date for Lorenzo must be a flawed transcription of the marker. He was born about 1820. The transcriber could have thought the 2 was a 7. His dau. Catherine was born 1852. So it's a clear mis-transcription of her father's birth year.
