CARRIE LUCILLE APPLEBY
PORTLAND - Cary Lucille Appleby, 101, passed away at the Barron Center, Friday October 29, 2011. She was born in Houlton July 1, 1910 a daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel Dunphy.
Carrie retired from Baxter School for the Deaf and worked many years at the Cushman's Bakery. She was a member of the Easter Star and Rebekah Lodges.
Carrie leaves behind her children: Richard Appleby and his wife Virginia and Constance Sewell, Steven Appleby and his wife Regina, Lisa Appleby and Daniel Appleby and his wife Kelly; great grandchildren: Jamison, Rebecca, Hannah, Dalton, Noah, Ethan, Sarah, Jennifer and Emma; her sister Jennie Murphy; Carrie will also be missed by Joyce and Diane Curry whose company she enjoyed so much.
She was predeceased by her husband, Christie Appleby and her son Allen, four brothers and one sister.
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff and friends at Park Danforth for the kindness shown to Carrie for the many years she was a resident.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 279 Congress St., Portland. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.

Carrie was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was very active in the Eastern Star and her Rebekah Lodge, spending many hours in service to her groups and her community. She took great pride in her family and extended family and always cherished them, as well as the many, many friends that surrounded her. Her smile and laughter were infectious and positively touched everyone she was ever in contact with. She was especially close to her grandchildren who gave her any days of joy and comfort.
Carrie took great pride in her Maine heritage and believed that Maine was where all "life began".
