Catherine Kemper was born ln Virginia and there married Oliver Benear. She died about 1830 before the removal of her
father to Missouri. Her two sons were reared by their Aunt Matilda, and they and their father came west with Martin Kemper when he moved to Missouri. Nothing is known of the ancestry of Oliver Benear. He seems to have died some time after coming to Missouri and is buried in the Kemper Cemetery. (Clarence Cannon, The Kemper Book, VII-47)
"Oliver" (or "Ollie") apparently was his nickname. The 1850 census lists him as Alexander Benear and still living in Lincoln County. Margie Ellis Howell in "Benear of Virginia ..." reportedly documents his dates of birth & death as 1806-1850. (not verified, I don't yet have a copy of her book)
