The Bulletin (Bend, Or.) July 1, 2011
Jim Couch, aged 63 years, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in Bend, Oregon. Jim was born February 22, 1948, in Medford, Oregon to Mahlon and Mildred (Cunningham) Couch. The family moved to Bend one year later.
Jim graduated from Redmond High School in 1966. As a young man, he loved painting and working on cars. He was a top notch welder and also enjoyed music, playing his guitar, piano and riding horses. The family thrived, operating the Mahlon Couch Logging Company, a family business where Jim had a hand in all aspects of operations. While operating a skidder, a tree fell on the skidder and him. After a 90 day coma, Jim miraculously awoke but remained paralyzed for 44 years. He had a wonderful long term memory of loving family and friends, especially his devoted father. A gentleman, he maintained a sweetness about him with all who helped him through the years.
Jim is survived by his father Mahlon of Bend, his sisters and their husbands, Rosalind and Dean Robbins of Albany, Oregon, and Twyla and Robert Knox of Centerville, Utah; his aunts, Helen,
josephine, Lucille and Rosie; also many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred, his stepmother, Irene and his grandparents.
Mahlon and the family gratefully acknowledge all the wonderful people who have touched their lives in caring for Jim. Thank you ALL.
