Betty Ann was born June 10, 1931 in Wheaton, MN to William and Anna (Tammen Buhrman) Rixe. Her father was the Traverse County Treasurer for 24 years and her mother was a seamstress. She attended school in Wheaton, graduating from Wheaton High School in 1949. After finishing school, Betty worked for a short time at Warner Brothers Television Company in Minneapolis.
On June 7, 1950, Betty married Leander Braun in Rosholt. Leander and Betty farmed near Rosholt and New Effington before buying their farm near Fairmount, ND in September 1957. During their time on the farm, a new house was built in 1968 and the family experienced a tornado in 1971 which took the barn and trees. Many family and neighborhood gatherings were held there. They retired from farming in 1987 and moved to Rosholt in the fall of 1997.
Leander and Betty enjoyed traveling and spent several winters "snowbirding" with nearly 20 winters at the River Bend Resort near Brownsville, TX. They made many friends from throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Betty liked a good cup of coffee with friends, a good piece of chocolate and a good game of cards. She was an excellent hostess and always made people feel welcome. She enjoyed gardening, hand sewing, reading, butterflies and angels. She enjoyed trying new recipes and taught her daughters how to cook, can and sew. Betty was a kind gentle spirit and will be deeply missed by her family and all those who called her friend.
Betty was a past member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Fairmount. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Fairmount. She held offices in both organizations. After moving to Rosholt, Betty became a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Rosary Makers.
Survivors include her husband, Leander of Rosholt; children: Dan (Dean) Braun of Lake Ariel, PA; Becky (Bob) Collier of Breese, IL; Pat (Glen) Dockter of West Fargo, ND; Roger (Judy) Braun of Barney, ND; Dale Braun of Wahpeton, ND; Tim Braun of Hartford, SD and Ginny (Steve) Merrill of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren: JoAnne, Michelle, Chris, Taylor, Bonnie, Bryan, Lisa, Lori and Kevin; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Doris Rixe of Wheaton; and step sister-in-law, Betty Rixe of St. Paul, MN.
Betty was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary; her parents; brother, Donald; half-sister, Vivian Hovren; step brothers, Art, Walt and Lawrence Rixe; step sister, Luella Worner; and infant granddaughters, Julie and Jenifer Dockter.
