Mrs. Eliza T. Akers, wife of Mr. W. C. Akers.
She was the daughter of James and Mary Callaway, deceased, and was born in Halifax Co., VA 20 Apr 1821 and married 12 Jan 1842. For thirty six years, she has been the avowed disciple of the Savior and at the time of her death, she was a member of the Tabb Street Presbyterian Church of Petersburg. It is the testimony of one who knew her well that the grace of God was strikingly illustrated in her character, and that she exemplified her religion in all the relations of life. She was a devoted wife, an affectionate mother, and a kind neighbor.
The subject of protracted and painful affliction, she bore it in patient submission to the will of her Heavenly Father, and awaited death in the calmness that Christian Faith, which knows no fear.
As the end drew near, she asked her assembled family to sing that sweet song of Zion--" When I can Read my title clear to mansions in the skies." And then, when she had exhorted them to meet her in heaven, she fell asleep in Jesus.
May the Father of Mercies comfort her bereaved family with the consolations of His Holy Sprint.
