EVA ELIZABETH "EFFIE" (KURTZ) BRUNNER 1917-2000
Effie Elizabeth Brunner, 83, of Fort Collins, [CO] formerly of Windsor, died Friday, May 12,  at the home of Ron and Venita Christian. She was born Jan. 16, 1917, in Windsor to William and Effie Elizabeth (Frank) Kurtz. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1934, and she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education in 1939 from Colorado State College of Education, now the University of Northern Colorado. On Nov. 11, 1946 she married Henry H. Brunner in Greeley. He died in November 1979. Mrs. Brunner lived in Windsor for most of her life and lived in Greeley from 1934-39. She had lived in Fort Collins since 1995, first at the home of her daughter, and for the last year at the Christians' home.
She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor, served on the Windsor Republican Women's Committee, was a library board member in Windsor for 30 years, and was instrumental in raising funds for the community's new library in the 1960's. She served on many church committees, lectured at Windsor Schools, served on the Home Health Care Advisory Board at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley. She and her sister, Ruth Rice, donated the Lifeline to NCMC. She also donated carillons to Bethel Lutheran Church in 1969. She was named the 1984 Volunteer of the Year in Weld County, Colorado.
Survivors are a daughter, Marjean Sheridan of Fort Collins; two sons, Kenton and Neill Brunner, both of Windsor; two sisters, Mary Ring of Torrington, Wyo. and Ruth Rice of Greeley; and six grandchildren, Marc Brunner of Omaha, Neb.; Matthew, and Luke Brunner of Windsor; and Amy Brunner; Kierra Sheridan; and Katie Sheridan; all of Fort Collins. A brother, Henry William Kurtz, was killed April 10, 1945, during World War II while serving in Germany. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Windsor, with Revs. Ron Christian, Lloyd Lorensen, and Darren Fred officiating. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation in care of Bohlender Funeral Chapel in Fort Collins. (City of Greeley Museums, Greeley, CO)
