He was born the son of William and Hannah (Kallio) Anderson on Aug. 2, 1918, in Hibbing. Walter attended Hibbing schools. He was united in marriage to Margaret Jeanette Gisselquist on March 4, 1950, in Hibbing.
Walter worked for Hanna Mining Co., retiring in 1965. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Walter enjoyed playing the accordion, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his sister, Aune Violet Kangas; his special nephew and godson, Wally (Brenda) Kangas; nephews, Glenn (Debbie) Kangas and Gary (Kathy) Kangas; a niece, Diane (Vance) Giroux; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret; and three brothers: Wayne, Bill and Earnest.
Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery on 07/22/2013.
