Adele Grant "Dellie" Monges Davison
Birth: Jun. 9, 1909
Alameda County
California, USA
Death: Aug. 3, 1973
Loudoun County
Virginia, USA

Waterford News Notes, Loudoun Times-Mirror, August 9, 1973:
Compared to its modest population of approximately 300 which includes men, women and children, Waterford has an impressive Garden Club with a roster of 60 gals, a policy of open membership and a hospitable attitude toward guests. Any unanimous decision made by the organization can be accepted as a reasonably comprehensive attitude of the entire community. Last spring, the Garden Club nominated Adele Davison as Woman of the Year for Loudoun County. The fact that someone else received the award in no way diminished the members' conviction that the recognition was long past due for Adele. Her career as wife, mother and good neighbor is a familiar story. Her friends gained by association with her in any one or more of the widely diversified activities she supported, and everybody everywhere gained by her heroic devotion to the effort to defeat cancer and assist its victims.
When the Loudoun County Chapter of the Cancer Association was formed in 1960, Adele was secretary, and in the ensuing years she held every official position, serving as president for three terms, heading every fund drive, transporting patients to hospitals, churches, etc. Her fight to rescue the stricken was a tribute to humanitarianism. Her courage, when stricken herself, was a pattern for gallantry. Friday morning, when the struggle came to a close, we were all losers.
"But," protested someone from Washington who sees all the Waterford plays, "wasn't Adele Davison the actress who played the delightfully balmy sister in 'Harvey'?" She was. "And the amusingly fuzzy-minded countess in 'The Women'?" She was. "Then, how is it possible...? So soon...?" It's always possible, and always too soon, and that was the theme of Adele's message during the Cancer Crusade. Our town mourns the loss of Adele and offers sympathy, admiration and affection to her family.

Mom, you said the day you were diagnosed, "I've had a good life." I, Jill, Dori, Rich, and Hank have had great lives because of you and Dad.
