Birth: Apr. 5, 1849
Guernsey County
Ohio, USA
Death: Dec. 23, 1928
Tripp County
South Dakota, USA

Harriet Ellen Thompson, born Parry, also known as Hattie, was born in the Spring, April 5, 1849, the eldest of ten children, to Mahlon and Eliza Ann (Smith) Parry.

The Smith family was primarily of English descent. Same for the Parry family, with some Welsh and a dash of Irish mixed in.

Harriet was born in Sencaville, Guernsey County, Ohio. She came to be the eldest of five sisters and four brothers.

March 12, 1868, Harriet married Jacob Thompson, also known as Jake. The couple farmed in the Noble County area and were fairly successful.

They had three boys and two girls born to them. Charles Madison (1869-1948), and Jessica Estella Maud "Jesse" (1871-?; married Ira Deck), were born in Ohio.

In 1874, son Harry Ernest (1874-1950) was born in Kansas, where Jake likely tried his hand at farming or cattle dealing. Son Dwight Lyman (1877-1946) was born back in Ohio.

Around 1880, Jake went to Colorado, seeking gold. Later, he relocated to a city, but did not care for city living. They settled on a farm in Iowa, where their last child, Helen Lucile (1892-1948; married Andrew Langland) was born.

By 1900, Jake & Hattie were living in Rock County, Nebraska with their son Charles. In 1910, at age 62, Jake and Hattie had one daughter, Helen, at home and were still in Rock County, Nebraska.

Sometime thereafter, Jake and Hattie headed north for South Dakota. They homesteaded in Tripp County. Throughout his lifetime, Jake was known as a farmer, a miner, and a cattle dealer.

In the Spring of 1919, Hattie lost her Jake. Hattie passed away just before Christmas, on 23 December, 1928. The couple is buried together in the Winner Cemetery in Tripp County, South Dakota.
