Loren was a Civil War veteran. He rode with Company A, 20th New York Cavalry enlisting at 16 on 8 July 1863 in Sacketts Harbor, NY and mustered into the 20th NY on 7 August 1863 to serve three years. He served under Gen's Butler and McKinzie and was absent, sick in hospital at Richmond, Va before mustering out. He mustered out on 31 Jul 1865 at Manchester, VA. He was actually only 16 at the time, this is very well documented but on his service record he is listed as being born in 1845!
Loren O. Burnham, farmer on section 24, Vernon Township, Isabella County, Michigan, born Lyme Township, Jefferson County, New York, May 18, 1847. He was married August 31, 1869, in Wayne County, Mich. to Miss Lydia Potter.
Five children have been born to this union: Henry W., October 4, 1870; Edith J., December 1, 1872; Alton C., March 22, 1875; Emerson, July 17, 1880; Clark Y.,
July 22, 1883.
