Loren was a Civil War veteran. He rode with Company A, 20th New York Cavalry enlisting at 16 on 8 July 1863 in Sacketts Harbor, NY and mustered into the 20th NY on 7 August 1863 to serve three years. He served under Gen's Butler and McKinzie and was absent, sick in hospital at Richmond, Va before mustering out. He mustered out on 31 Jul 1865 at Manchester, VA.
