ADA RESIDENT DIES IN FLAMING HOUSE TUESDAY
A one-legged Ada man, who got around in a wheelchair, died today in an early morning fire at his home.
The body of Edgar Lynn Cales, 61, 1112 E. Beverly, was found in the ruins of the house after firemen had put out the fire.
Cales was unmarried and living along in the house.
District Attorney Gordon Melson said the medical examiner's report showed no evidence of foul play.
The fire was spotted by a truck driver, Raymond Stowers, Lincoln, Ark., who was coming into Ada from the east on SH 1.
Stowers told Fire Chief Herman Landrith he could see the fire some distance from town.
When Stowers reached the scene, he began knocking on doors in the neighborhood to awaken someone to report the fire.
Stowers said he had to try several houses before he was able to rouse anybody.
The fires was reported at 2:17 a.m.
By the time firemen reached the scene, the entire frame structure was ablaze.
The roof had already caved in when the fire trucks arrived.
Cales's body was found in the living room near his wheelchair. He had apparently made some effort to get out of the burning house.
Chief Landrith said the cause of the fire has not yet been definitely determined.
Graveside services for Cales were Tuesday afternoon in Rosedale Cemetery. The Rev. Herman Ging conducted the services. Arrangements were by Criswell Funeral Home.
Cales was born Oct 9, 1908, in Ada and attended grade and high schools here.
Survivors include one sister, Jessie Martin, Pauls Valley; an aunt, Mrs. W. N. Hughes, Ada, and a cousin, Mrs. Donnie Morrison, Ada.

Uncle Eddie, you died well before your time and so tragically, too. I'm so sorry we didn't get to spend that many years together. I think of you often. Rest in peace.|
