OBITUARY – Sophia Cynthia Brown, Miss died March 28, 1977 – Monroe, Georgia THE VIENNA NEWS, Vienna, Georgia Wednesday April 6, 1977 Miss Sophia Cynthia Brown, age 81, of Monroe, died March 28 in the Walton County Hospital, Monroe, following a brief illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning, March 30 at the graveside in the Vienna Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Oliver officiated. Miss Brown was a native of Dooly County and made her home in Valdosta most of her life. She retired from American Cyanamid Corp. in 1944 and was employed at Varnadores Department Store for several years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Valdosta, where she served as church school secretary for 25 years. She moved to Decatur for a few months prior to making a home in Monroe. Surviving are nieces and nephews: Henry T. Brown of Cordele, David Brown and John M. Brown, both of Macon, Henry C. Brown of Gainesville, Fla., and Mrs. Howard C. Mitchell of Anderson, S. C. Arthur Bowick, Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements. -----From Miss Brown`s obituary it appears that she was the last surviving member of her immediate family of parents and five children.
