Emeline married at least four times. Her first husband was probably George H Tilley. They had two sons, William Leslie and George H. George Sr. died in 1876, and not long after that she moved to Shelby County, Illinois. It looks like she may have moved with her late husband's family, since his mother and several of his sibling also settled there. Emeline married a widower named Clark Thomas in 1877. She and Clark would have at least eight children together, and would remain married until Clark's death in the early 1910's. Their children were Theodore, Cara, Anne, John, Claude, DeWitt, Mary Alice, and Ruth. In 1915 Emilene married Nathan Thomas Skiff. She divorced him in 1919, stating that he was violently abusive. In the early 1920's she married Alfred Dotson, and would remain married to him until her death.

Emeline's maiden name is a bit of a mystery. Her death record states that her father's name was Kincaide, but some of her children's death certificates list her maiden name as Valentine, and there is marriage record of a George H Tilley marrying an Emma Corey in Spencer County, Indiana about a year before William Leslie Tilley was born.
