"Martha M. Brown was born Dec. 18, 1844 in Benton county, Ark., was married to J. J. Brown July 28, 1865. They moved to Texas the same year and lived there two years, returning to Benton county in December 1867. She united with the Christian church at New Salem, this state, 1875, remaining strong in the faith until God called her home the 16th of Sept. Death was due to cerebral hemorrhage of the brain and she remained conscious only about two minutes after she was stricken, passing away while at the home of her son, R. M. Brown, in Shawnee, Okla. Mrs. Brown was the mother of ten children, eight of whom are living, five being present at the time of her death, the other three arriving soon afterward. The remains were shipped to her old home in Benton county and deposited in the Coffelt cemetery Sunday evening to await the resurrection morning. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sears and a host of friends were present to look upon her smiling face the last time on earth. A friend."
