Birth: Apr. 28, 1799
Greenbrier County
West Virginia, USA
Death: Oct. 15, 1869
Arbaugh
Vinton County
Ohio, USA

Joseph was the son of John and Nancy (RIFE) Arbaugh.

At the time of Joseph's birth, Greenbrier County was still Virginia.

The first actual paperwork I have found on Joseph is the record of his marriage to his first wife, Mary "Polly" Conner in Gallia County, Ohio on November 19, 1818

The next document I could find with Joseph is the 1820 census for Salem, Meigs County, Ohio.
The census report lists:
Joseph Arbaugh
1 male under 5
1 male 16-26
1 female 16-26
This information translates to: Joseph, Polly and baby John.

Joseph and Polly had for children:

Joseph, Jr. - See Memorial

Polly died a few days after Sophia's birth in 1828 near Dyesville in Meigs County Ohio.

On April 6, 1829, Joseph Married Susannah Nelson in Meigs County. They had 9 children together:

In 1832 Joseph and Susannah sold their Meigs County farm and moved to Vinton County, where they bought a bigger farm in Vinton Township, and what eventually became the hamlet of Arbaugh, Vinton Township, Vinton County, Ohio. On June 13, 1890, Arbaugh got its own U.S. Post Office and Susan Arbaugh was appointed the first Postmaster. The Arbaugh Post Office was discontinued on June 29, 1918.

Their fourth child, Susannah, married William Salts in Vinton County on December 3, 1854.

William and Sussanah (Arbaugh) Salts' eighth child, Eliza Ella (Salts) Smallridge was my Great Grandmother. She married Andrew J. Smallridge on November 12, 1896 in Vinton County.
