Marvin was born on the farm of his grandfather, Joseph Isiah Bartley in Tahoka in 1915. His parents were Benjamin H. and Roxie B. Miller Bartley. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Fort Sill, Oklahoma for two years. He and Johnnie E. Gilbert married March 13, 1936 in Clarendon, Texas. They moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1942 from Plainview. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
At time of his death Marvin and Johnnie resided at 701 31st St. He was a transport driver for Horkey Oil Co. of Lubbock. He was a member of the Church of Christ and a member of the VFW.
Sibblings were; Joseph S., Newman W. Bartley, & Lucille Bartley Poindexter.
