John M. Brown, age 79, died Sunday, December 15, 1996 in Wellington.
Born February 17, 1917 in Grayson County, TX to Milton and Bertha Williams Brown, he came to Wellington in 1923. He served in the Army Air Corp during WW II. He received a purple heart. He married Ina Wilkerson on October 6, 1948 in Childress. He operated Brown Paint and Body Shop for 45 years and retired in 1996.
He was a former member and had held all offices of the Wellington Kiwanis Club. He served on the Collingsworth County Volunteer Ambulance Service for 21 years from 1974 to 1995. He was a charter member of the Wellington Country Club, a member of the VFW and had retired from the Wellington Fire Department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ina, of the home; a sister, Isabel Marchant of Shamrock; an aunt, Lockie Williams of Wellington and a niece, Janice Landers of Texarkana
