"David Weston Averill, son of Daniel and Polly (Weston) Averill, was born in Mt. Vernon, NH. He married Submit French and in 1810 came to Barre and located on a farm in the Eastern part of town. He cleared a patch of ground an built a log cabin, roofed it with bark and returned to NH. Early the next spring he returned with his wife and one child. Mrs Averill was composed of the right marerial for pioneer life, and worked with willing hands and hopeful heart with her husband in making a home. Mr. Averill was one of the military company that started from Barre for Plattsburgh, NY when it was invaded in the war of 1812, and only got as far as Burlington, VT. Mr Averill was a sucessful farmer and has always been a resident of Barre. In 1831 he moved to Barre villiage where he dealt in real estate, and built and sold about a dozen houses.He now owns several farms as well."
