CHARLES M. MARTIN, well known in this locality died at St. Barnabas Hospital in Minneapolis after a brief illiness of apoplexy.

The past year Mr. Andrist had been professor of romance languages at Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois and returned to his home in June.

Charles Andrist was born in Roscoe township and spent his boyhood days there. He was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Andrist and the grandson of David Andrist Jr. from Bern, Switzerland. In 1890 he was admitted to the University of Minnesota graduating in 1894 and the following year became an instructor of languages at the university for over 13 years. He was an accomplished linguist, speaking in eight different languages fluently.

He served as secretary to two former governors, W.S. Hammond and J.A. Burnquist. In 1916 he was a democratic nominee for governor and later for lieutenant governor. He was at different times suggested for national posts as well. In 1900 he was superintendent of the International Harvester Exposition in Paris, France. He was a member of the Masons, Knights of Pythias and a number of college fraternities.

Surviving him are his wife, Emily at home at 706 Deleware Street SE, a son Karl of the Cincinatti Symphony Orchestra in Ohio, Madeline Andrist a teacher, and Lenore Andrist, a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota in music. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Andrist of Owatonna and two brothers, Dr. Walter Andrist of Owatonna and Loren Andrist of Mankato, Minnesota.

The funeral was from Bethany Presbyterian church with Rev. Alwyn Hickman officiating. The pall bearers were six members of the class of 1894 with whom Mr. Andrist graduated from the University; Malvern H. Manuel, Dr. J.C Litz-Larson, Jesse VanValkenburg, Charles H. Chalmers and A.T. Harding.

Obituary published in a Dodge County, Minnesota newspaper, West Concord Enterprise.
