Mrs. Andrist was born April 12, 1852 in Enge, Canton Glarus, Switzerland. She came to this country with her parents, Johann Jakob Baumgartner & Elsbeth Weiss Baumgartner in 1858. The family settled in New Glarus, Wisconsin. In the spring of 1862 they moved to Berne, Minnesota where she married Godfrey Andrist on April 17, 1873.
She united with the Lutheran Reformed Church (Zwingli) and was an earnest worker there. She was a power for the good in the community and had personal influence on many. She was an inspirer of courage and hope in others. One of the marked events of her life was an opportunity to visit her native land, Switzerland, in 1911. On her return she brought remembrances to many friends.
The funeral was held from the Berne Church on Sunday, July 30, 1916 with Rev. Dipping, pastor officiating. A large concourse of friends gathered to pay tribute to a strong and noble life. She was survived by her husband, Godfrey, and three children: Walter of Berne, Louis and Amelia, Mrs. W.E. Fryer, of Mantorville. Nine grandchildren and three brothers, Rudolph, Jacob and John Baumgartner, one sister, Mrs. Barbara Stucky preceded her in death in November 1915. Burial was in Berne Cemetery, Berne, Minnesota.
