Anna Elizabeth Holemberg was born in Switzerland on February 21, 1819 to Rudolph Holemberg and wife, the last name is also spelled Hollenweg on some documents. She married Johannes Andrist in November 12, 1840 in Switzerland. Two daughters, Elizabeth & Rosina died as infants in Switzerland. The family immigrated on the ship New Orleans to New York with their children arriving July 6, 1858 settling in No. Georgetown, Columbiana County, Ohio. While in Ohio they had 2 more sons.
Three of her oldest sons John A., Godfrey & Jacob served in the Civil War. Johannes died in Ohio in 1868 and is buried there. After Johannes' death Elizabeth moved west to Dodge County, Minnesota with her younger children, David and Samuel G. (Henry stayed in Ohio near Jacob) to settle in Berne, Minnesota where her oldest sons John A., Godfrey, William homesteaded. She was an active part of the Swiss community and passed away in Milton Township on February 11, 1901. Burial was in the Berne Cemetery, Berne, Minnesota. Her son David is buried nearby in the plot also.
