Birth: Mar. 15, 1777
Virginia, USA
Death: Oct. 28, 1858
New Albany
Floyd County
Indiana, USA

Josiah was major in the Home Guards in New Albany, IN. His parents came to Kentucky from James River, VA. His father William Akin was ambushed in 1782 by Indians and killed on his way to the mill, which was located near the falls of the Ohio Rr. in Beargrass,VA. (now Jefferson Co., KY.) His mother Mary Wallace was born 1754 and died Nov. 1824. After the death of her husband, she married William Goodwin, who died Aug. 1828.

From family records, give Mar 18, 1858 as death date for Josiah; but from the New Albany Daily Ledger, article - Another Pioneer Gone; Date: November 01, 1858 (Thurs.), states he died 10 o'clock Sunday morning... *LJS
