Vance Barnett, longtime resident of Taylor, passed away at Idaho Falls Life Care Center at age 99. He attended schools in Payson, UT, Firth, and Shelley. Due to the depression and need to work and support his family he only finished the seventh grade but was proud to obtain his GED later in life. He married Lila Millie Wadsworth on November 14, 1937, in Taylor; their marriage was sealed in Idaho Falls temple on July 7, 1950. The couple purchased Lila's father's Taylor farm on January 31, 1958, the land which he actively farmed into his seventies. Besides his great love of farming and raising livestock, he loved sports of all kinds. Vance was an avid baseball fan. In younger years, he was an expert pitcher on Taylor's baseball team in the Farmers League. He also loved bowling, golf, hunting, and fishing. He was tying fishing flies into his 99th year for his next fishing trip. He served faithfully in positions for the LDS church and Boy Scouts of America, was member of Shelley School Board, and served on District 6 Flood Control Commission.
Survivors include his son Jack Barnett (Judy), daughter Bonnie Brown (Joel), son Braxton Barnett, and sisters Betty Maas and Barbara Shannon of Murrieta, CA. He was preceded by his wife of 60 years, parents, daughter Sylvia Gaye Aland, son-in-law Bill Aland, sister Kathleen Adamson, and brothers Keith, Maurice, and Berkley.
Visitation was at Nalder Mortuary 110 W. Oak in Shelley, with funeral services held February 2, 2012, at Taylor Ward Chapel, 1101 E. 1250 North in Bingham County.
