John Walter Asper, 88, of Idaho Falls, died October 4, 2001, at the Lily Assisted Living Center. He was born April 4, 1913, at Idaho Falls, to George W. Asper and Jemima Rachel Chapman Asper. He grew up in Idaho Falls, graduating from Idaho Falls High School. He married Myrtle Sarah Farnsworth May 20, 1933, at Long Beach, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in California and Oregon, where he worked for the Bureau of Land Management.
They returned to Idaho Falls and owned his own business for 17 years, building potato equipment, consisting of potato scoopers, harvesters, and pilers. He worked for Bonneville County Road & Bridge Department for 13 years prior to retirement. Myrtle passed away October 31, 1994.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge. He enjoyed small engine repair, gardening, fishing, and especially helping others.

He was preceded by his wife, a son, Ronald, a brother, and one sister. Funeral Services held October 8, 2001, at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Bishop Jared Fuhriman of the Idaho Falls 11th Ward officiating.
