He always went by his middle name. Orey worked in Hawarden, Iowa, as a telephone lineman for Bell Telephone Company. He also drove a Standard Oil tanker with mules. After moving to Decatur County, Iowa, he was a farmer.
excerpts from the obituary Osceola Tribune, October 6, 1959:
Walter Orey Clark, 76 year old resident of Clarke county for most of his adult life, died Monday at the Clarke county hospital. He had been in ill health for some time.
The son of John and Elsie Shanks (should be Sarah Ellen Shank) Clark, he was born Feb. 26, 1883, and educated in the Decatur county schools.
On March 17, 1905, he was united in marriage with Lucy Violett at Hawarden. Six children were born to that union. Mrs. Clark preceded her husband in death.
A retired farmer, Mr. Clark had been a resident of Clarke county the past 50 years. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Surviving are his two daughters, Flora Marshall of Weldon, and Mrs. Mildred Andrew of Rio Vista, Calif.; three sons, Al of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Leslie and Maurice of Osceola; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Wright of St. Joseph, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and infant son, four brothers, and two sisters.
