Fay was born on November 24, 1911, near Columbia, IA. She always went by her middle name, Fay. She attended schools in Lucas County. She graduated from Indianola High School and went to college for a time at Simpson College in Indianola. On January 13, 1933, she married Oliver Jensen, a Methodist minister. They had one daughter, Jeanie May. Fay taught piano and voice lessons for many years.
Oliver and Fay divorced, and on November 25, 1957, she married Cyrus Clay Cheeks. Cyrus refinished furniture and they had a gift shop in West Branch, IA. They had a daughter, Cyra Fay. They lived in Urbandale for awhile, and divorced in September, 1970.
Fay later lived at Winterset, IA, and enjoyed collecting antiques. She moved to Idaho to be near her daughter, Jeanie and husband. She married Dean Ball in Idaho on July 16, 1992, on Mount Schweitzer. Fay passed away August 15, 1994, in Sandpoint, Idaho, and part of her ashes were scattered from the same spot on the mountain where she was married.
