Catherine "Kate" Schrock was born January 14,1898 in Columbus, Ohio to William Phillip and Bertha (Eicher) Schrock. She was the oldest of 8 children (6 survived to adulthood).
Catherine married Chauncey Phillip Lang on May 30,1918 at the Indianola Methodist Church with the Rev. Wm. Anderson performing the ceremony.
Catherine only finished high school. But she would occasionally take college classes at Penn State University but they never led to a degree. All the courses she took were in music as she had a beautiful singing voice.
While in Ohio Catherine taught for a time school. At that time teachers were not required to have college degrees.
Chauncey traveled a lot in Ag Extension so Catherine headed the household throughout the week raising their three daughters, Catherine Elizabeth, Barbara Jane and Phyllis Ann.
Her hobbies included playing duplicate bridge, social bridge, reading, sewing, knitting, and other craft and needlework.
Catherine was a long-time member of St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church, State College, PA and other Methodist churches where she lived in Florida. She belonged to the State College Democrat Women's Club, PEO, book clubs and many social bridge clubs. Catherine enjoyed attending the theatre and going to concerts.
Chauncey and Catherine were in charge of the United States delegation to India's First Agricultural Fair in New Delhi in 1960. After they returned to State College they became active with the Indian Students' Association. She also sold out of her house Indian handcrafts to support a charity back in Indian.
Later Chauncey served as advisor to the youth program in Patzcuara in Mexico where they resided for at least a year.
Chauncey was elected Mayor of State College twice from 1966 -1974 before he and Catherine moved to Manatee County, Florida.
Catherine died on March 14, 1991 in Manatee County, Florida.
