Heinrich Wilhelm Dietrich Antholz, son of Henry Frederick Antholz and Eleanor Margarethe nee Schmidt was born at Elk Creek, Neb., Nov. 11, 1885. He was brought to the Lord in early childhood through the rites of Holy Baptism. After a thorough course of instruction on the way of salvation, he was confirmed in the faith of his parents in St. John's Lutheran Church at Long Branch, Neb.

In 1903 he came to Ludell, Kan., and worked as a laborer on the Herman Focke farm. Feb. 13, 1908 he was united in marriage to Anna Margaretha Friedrichs at Elmore, Minn. and they made their home on a farm they had purchased north of Atwood. To this union were born two sons, Arthur and Edwin and two daughters, Alma and Frieda. In the spring of 1919 they moved to their newly purchased farm 2 1/2 miles north of McDonald where Henry built the buildings which are the farmstead of today.

April 5, 1932, Mrs. Antholz passed away after a long illness. Services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bird City, Kan., with burial at Grace Cemetry in McDonald. August 10, 1941, Henry was married to Leona Radman Hoyer at the Lutheran Church in Cannon Falls, Minn.

His love for the mountains led him to purchase land along the Gore Creek in 1938. This was later to become the site of Vail Village of Vail, Colo. In 1967 they moved to a ranch in Gunnison County, Colo., where his interests were prospecting, camping and fishing during the summer months. Winter months were spent at their home in Montrose, Colo. His philosophy was that the Lord owned the land and he was the steward of it and should leave it in good condition for someone else.

He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church in Montose, Colo. He was the last member of his generation to pass away. He will be remembered for his faithful service to St. John's Lutheran Church in Bird City, his faithful support of the Lutheran Hour and also of the new missions of the church at LaSalle and Clifton, Colo., a suburb of Grand Junction. Shortly before his death he was remembered with a bouquet of flowers as one of the last two remaining charter members of the Atwood Equity.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; daughter, Alma; son, Edwin; five brothers and two sisters. Surviving him are his wife, Leona; one son, Arthur Antholz and his wife, Helene of Eaton, Colo.; one daughter, Frieda and husband, Harvey Black of McDonald; one daughter-in-law, Gertrude Antholz of St. Francis; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

After being in good health most of his life, Henry suffered from a stroke July 12, 1983. He was hospitalized at Montrose Memorial Hospital. As his condition improved he was transferred to Hilltop Rehabilitation Center in Grand Junction for all types of physical therapy. He showed improvement but developed a heart condition and died October 14, 1983.

Family prayer service was held at the Mortuary chapel in St. Francis Monday evening conducted by the Rev. Charles Miller. A special musical number was sung by Hal and Becky Antholz. The funeral was held at St. John's Lutheran Church at Bird City, Kan., October 18, 1983. Officiating pastors were Rev. Clayton Nietfeld of Englewood, Colo., and the local pastor Rev. Howard Ellis. Nora Jean Wilson was the organist. "Beautiful Savior" and "Heaven is My Home" were sung by Hal and Becky Antholz. Pallbearers were grandsons Gilbert and Robert Antholz, Greg Black of McDonald, Greg Hubbard of Dallas, Tex., Burette Griffith of Goodland and Charles Loper of Security, Colo.

Attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Leona Antholz of Montrose, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Antholz of Eaton, Colo.; Rev. and Mrs Clayton Nietfeld of Englewood, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Randy Dirks of Dodge City; Eileen Neitfeld of Deshler, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Loper and Bert of Security, Colo.; Bart Loper of Manitou, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Greg Hubbard of Dallas, Tex.; Tina Antholz of Seward, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Burette Griffith and Kristal of Goodland; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Radman of Cannon Falls, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Antholz of Johnson, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Antholz of Cook, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Merz, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Merz, and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Merz of Arkansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Peters of Wray, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Menken of Fort Mortgan, Colo.; Mrs Levina and daughter, Tamara Randall of Wheeler; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rather of Ludell; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rickenberg of Greeley, Colo.; and Mr. Ed Kastens of Atwood.
